Wednesday Adult Class

Join us for a presentation by author Karen Jones as she talks about the importance of sparing our loved ones grief, stress and severe financial loss by preplanning for death. Based on her book Death for Beginners: Your No-Nonsense, Money-Saving Guide to Planning for the Inevitable, the workshop will include such topics as body disposal, burial choices, funerals, celebrations, wills and helping family and friends cope with grief.  Karen will encourage everyone to begin thinking about their final wishes and will help us fill out worksheets with our final wishes.

Author, educator and broadcast journalist, Karen Jones holds degrees in English and Education from the University of Virginia.  She has worked for ten years as an educator in the public schools, both teaching and writing curriculum, has taught writing workshops and seminars at colleges and universities nationwide, and also has fifteen years of experience in television news at WVEC, an ABC affiliate, as an on-air anchor and feature reporter.   Death for Beginners Your No-Nonsense, Money-Saving Guide to Planning for the Inevitable, is her third published work which she was inspired to write after watching a close friend deal with an unexpected death.  Karen directed the Virginia Writers Conference, and is a member of the National League of American Pen Women and The Authors Guild. She currently travels the country lecturing and giving workshops on both writing and how to plan for your death and still breath at the same time

THE MISSION of Great Bridge Presbyterian Church is to share the love of God and His promise of salvation with all people, equipping them to mature in Jesus Christ. Our vision focuses on the first three words of this tagline, “sharing Christ’s love.” The vision of GBPC is to share Christ’s love through one million touches in our church, our community, our country, and throughout the world. The vision statement is patterned after Jesus’ command to His disciples in Acts 1:8, that empowered by the Holy Spirit they should be His witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. In order to “equip God’s people,” we provide multiple ways for people to Worship, Grow and Serve–see where YOU connect!
