Hurricane Harvey struck the Texas coast late Friday, bringing lashing rain and sustained winds of 130 miles per hour. Even as its force has waned, Harvey has brought historic flooding, forcing rivers and streams from their banks, submerging homes, churches, businesses and roads, stranding thousands of people. Your gifts are urgently needed now to support the communities devastated by this historic storm and those throughout the Gulf region who are still in the path of Harvey’s torrential rains. Learn how you can help.
Giving has always been a mark of Christian commitment and discipleship. The ways in which a believer uses God’s gifts of material goods, personal abilities, and time should reflect a faithful response to God’s self-giving in Jesus Christ and Christ’s call to minister to and share with others in the world. Tithing, which refers to the 10% that the people of God were encouraged to give to him in the Old Testament (see Leviticus 27:30), is a primary expression of the Christian discipline of stewardship. This is still a useful standard to which Christians should aspire. At the very least, we encourage members to commit a percentage of income to the work of the Lord through this church. Currently, there are two ways to give to the ministries and missions of GBPC:
Envelopes–If you would like to receive envelopes, please contact Financial Secretary Bradley Simpson
Automatic draft—If you would like your giving deducted automatically from your bank account, please contact Treasurer Debbie Acors. Other on-line options are in the works and are coming soon! ACH Authorization Form
The year 2018 promises to be another great year as we continue to build Christ’s kingdom. Your faithful giving allows us to touch many lives with the good news of the gospel in our congregation, community, country, and throughout the world. Jesus said, “Give and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap; for the measure you give will be the measure you give back.” (Luke 6:38). In other words, “You can’t out-give God!” Our stewardship theme for our fall campaign is entitled “A Generous Life.” The measure we give to others is the measure with which we will get back! God calls us to give and live generously.
GBPC maintains a separate building fund to cover building and grounds needs, such as renovating the playground of maintaining or replacing items throughout the building. Building fund envelopes are available in the pew racks.
